Treatments - Hair Removal

Outline

These days there are a number of alternative treatments for removal of unwanted hair which range considerably in terms of cost. The procedures I use are electrolysis using the blend method from Sterex for permanent hair removal and waxing using the PHD system for general ‘maintenance’.

How the treatments work

Electrolysis – the process involves treating each individual hair follicle – a minute probe is introduced at to the base of each hair and a small current is released for 5 to 15 seconds. The effect of this is to attack the living cells which support the hair growth which will eventually then die and the hair can be removed and not re-grow. It may take several treatments before the hair is ready to be removed. Contrary to what many people believe the skin is not broken during this process – the skill and experience of your therapist should ensure the minimum amount of discomfort. Electrolysis can be used successfully on all hair types unlike laser and IPL which cannot treat fair or grey hairs. It is usual to follow a fairly intensive programme for electrolysis with no more than weekly intervals until the area under treatment is cleared.

Waxing – as a treatment waxing has been around a long time but more recently concerns have emerged regarding the possibility of cross contamination between clients. The PhD system was developed to counteract this risk – its design is such that the wax only flows in one direction from the applicator and a new applicator is used for each treatment. Waxing is a very versatile procedure – it is quick and effective but of course it isn’t permanent. With the PhD system hot wax (not enough to burn the skin) is applied to the treatment area and then a strip of material is applied immediately as it cools it adheres to the hair – the strip, wax & hair is then removed with a series of sharp tugs. Most areas of body hair can be removed in this way. The treatment needs to be repeated around every four to six weeks.

Client’s Experience

“I first visited Elite Beauty Care in April 2008 for electrolysis which I found to be very effective resulting in my self confidence getting a real boost. During this initial period of treatment my relationship with Anne as my therapist developed considerably – she is not only a highly professional therapist but most importantly a kind and caring individual.” Annie On slow
