This is a generic term used to describe a range of treatments which can be applied to a variety of minor blemishes and irregularities which can become unsightly and embarrassing if not treated. Very often they are perceived as something which does not warrant cosmetic surgery but there is no effective alternative generally available. These treatments have been pioneered in the UK by Sterex ® market leaders in skin care treatments. The sort of conditions we are talking about here are thread veins, skin tags, sebhorric warts, milia (white heads), blood spots (Campbell de Morgan) to name the more commonly recognised. Each condition has its own cause, for example, thread veins result from damaged capillaries – this could be due to events ranging from childbirth to high blood pressure. In most cases there conditions can be treated quickly and easily without any risk – just occasionally I may recommend taking medical advice before treatment.
How the treatment works
Most conditions can be successfully treated within a couple of visits – the procedure involves the use of a fine probe which is inserted into the treatment area, where necessary a local anaesthetic is applied to ensure the process relatively pain free. A small electrical charge is then released which quarterises the damaged area stems the blood flow which is creating the problem. Depending upon the size of the problem treatment can take anything between 15 minutes and an hour. The healing process varies depending upon the condition but is usually no more that a few days – any discolouration can generally be taken care of by using a suitable camouflage cream which also acts as a healing agent. With this technique there is no scarring because the corrective work is carried out beneath the skin. Whilst the treatment of the affected area is permanent it does not prevent further occurrence of the condition elsewhere, it is important to appreciate such procedures are corrective not preventative.
